26 imagesKilimanjaro is a mountain unto itself. It is the tallest mountain in Africa and the largest freestanding mountain on the planet. Every year, thousands of climbers summit with a 95% success rate, despite the peak elevation of roughly 20,000 feet. As most climbers are not high alpine specialists, their success can be attributed to the porters that lug their gear, including tents, food, chairs, and sometimes clothing, up the mountain. Hiking Kilimanjaro can be considered "glamping" or glamorous camping, all made possible by porters working for less than five dollars a day.

21 imagesAn old boss once told me, “You are what you do.” This I believe to be true, as we spend thousands of hours each year working to provide for ourselves and our families. The Professions series is meant to capture the story of a person’s livelihood, and in effect, who they are, in a single image. While traditional portraits focus on a subject’s face, I believe it is a person’s surroundings, their environment, which conveys the narrative of their place on this planet. As such, the Professions series specifically focuses away from the face to direct our attention to the way in which others make their living on a day-to-day basis.

15 imagesAlleyways have always intrigued me. There is something very personal and unintentionally revealing about the minimally traveled spaces behind homes. From the street, the front of a house is typically well kept, while the back is designated to be any number of things deemed appropriate on an individual basis. People know these areas are less traveled, and let down their guard. They remove the false facade and show their true colors. This world is at the same time magical, like entering a forgotten land. Despite neglect what is found is surprising in its beauty. It is, literally, the road less traveled. I've always been drawn to visiting far-flung locales to capture images for the world to see. I find that traveling the alleyways are similar to this idea, but with a twist. We all know our neighborhoods: the streets and the houses. They are not foreign lands. These places are familiar. But to walk the alleyways is to enter an alien landscape full of color, shape and unintentional design.

12 imagesAngel's Pool is the lesser known, and lesser frequented of the two swimming pools on the lip of Victoria Falls. While Angel's is less thrillist than it's counterpart, Devil's Pool, its provides a peaceful view of the Falls hard to find from Livingstone Island. The collection here is a tribute not only to the beauty of Angel's Pool, but also to the workers who carefully guide guests through the rocky pools in safety.
