Angel's Pool at Victoria Falls { 12 images } Created 22 Sep 2014

Angel's Pool is the lesser known, and lesser frequented of the two swimming pools on the lip of Victoria Falls. While Angel's is less thrillist than it's counterpart, Devil's Pool, its provides a peaceful view of the Falls hard to find from Livingstone Island. The collection here is a tribute not only to the beauty of Angel's Pool, but also to the workers who carefully guide guests through the rocky pools in safety.

  • Obino Simwaba poses for a portrait in the low water wash of the Zambezi River directly above Victoria Falls. Simwaba has been working at the park for seven years and says his favorite part of the job is meeting people from all over the world. When I asked what country most of his visitors come from he said, "The US. You guys must really love to travel."

  • Obino Simwaba steadies himself while walking through the wash above Victoria Falls in Zambia. The wash reveals itself only at the end of the dry season, when the mighty Zambezi river is at its lowest flow. When the rains come in October the wash will fill with water spilling 355 feet to the boiling point below.

  • Obino Simwaba holds his and my shoes, as we walk through the low flowing Zambezi River, at the lip of Victoria Falls in Zambia. Obino gives tours and helps ensure his guests get to see the falls in safety. He held my hand as we crossed the multiple slippery shallow waterways as we made our way across to Angel's Pool.
